Benefit Bike Run

75 bikers and numerous volunteers participated in a Benefit Bike Run to benefit Northern Dine Relief Effort's volunteer team leader Eric Trevizo, who suffered a stroke towards the end of February and as of yesterday, remained hospitalized due to persistent infection post-stroke, but is doing much better. God bless you, every one.

On April 4, we had asked for prayers as he was having another surgical procedure, thank you all for prayers. Eric had been missing for 5 days afte rhis stroke which left him vulnerable to the infections that did set in.

WEEK OF JAN 11
2021

Jan 16 - Receive planeload of brand new stuffed toys flow in by Devin Pauley in his Cessna from Provo Utah. Here's Devin's amazing story in his own words: "Originally from West Virginia, I did 6.5 years in the military before getting injured and was medically retired from the USAF. After being discharged, I packed up my house and my wife and I moved to Provo Utah so that I could go to school to be a professional Pilot. I have my Private Pilot rating and an in ipgrade training, hoping to one day have my Airline Transport Pilot Rating. I heard about a volunteer opportunity to transport toys down to the Navajo Nation and quickly threw my services as a pilot into the ring. At first we didn't think the plane would carry enough stuffed animals to make the trip worth it, but quickly found out we could fit nearly 400 stuffed animals into the back of my Cessna 172." Thank you Devin.

Jan 16 - Pop-Up Multi-Supply Power Place Church Shiprock Distribution! Relief team called in to interface with NN Police and assist Power Place Church at last minute to receive large U-Haul load of supplies coming in from southern Colorado with 12 Colorado youth volunteers during weekend lockdown. Items packed and distributed: diapers, baby formula, hand sanitizers, toilet paper, paper towels, brand new blankets/pillows, dental and bath hygiene supplies, and food (rice, beans, black beans, canned soups and vegetables).

Veterans, farmers and Relief team caravan to Tuba City Fairgrounds from Shiprock to assist Tuba City veterans with wood cutting and distribution, then transport 2 trailers and 2 pick up truckloads of woods back to Shiprock. Unfortunately, wood is deemed very wet for burning and likely unsuitable for distribution. Plan to return to Tuba City in following week for more wood, this time cured wood.

WEEK OF JAN 4
2021

  • Northern Relief joins Navajo Family Voices in an effort to provide one-time stipend checks in the amount of $300 for homebased coordinated kinship family child care. With the absence of professional childcare services on the Navajo Nation in New Mexico, families have been self-reliant during prolonged COVID lockdowns and curfews since March 13, 2020. Childcare, wellness, activities and learning so critical for early childhood development must be looked after from within. Numerous families have had to self-address early childhood and family wellness in kinship groups. The checks celebrate and salute the Diné family, founded upon matriarchal empowerment, which is all we have in the most rural places on the reservation.
  • No distribution activity. Volunteers staying home due to spread, first responder volunteers also told to stay safe at home after first vaccine shot, deliveries also on hold pending funding status of USDA Farm to Families program.
